Oregon Motorsports Museum Association

History Summary

The OMMA has been in existence for over 7 years and has operated as a small, all volunteer, self-supporting institution. During that period the OMMA has performed a number of educationally oriented functions and has engaged in "outreach" programs attempting to spread the history of northwest motor sports all around the pacific northwest and to persons of all ages and interests. The OMMA recently received "non-profit status" from the state and federal governments in recognition of its educational activities.

The members of the OMMA envision the Northwest Motorsports Museum performing the following functions:

1.    The establishment of a research library, which will be competent to engage in inter-library arrangements with other motor-sports libraries around the country and with general libraries.

2.    The provision of facilities for classroom instruction, film and video presentation; and technical seminars and round tables.

3.    Safekeeping and display of personal and other items related to significant northwest motor sports actors and institutions. This item is of the utmost urgency as many of these actors in the bygone age of northwest motor sports are nearing the end of their lives and will be looking for a suitable repository for their memorabilia.

4.    Presentation of rotating displays of motor sports vehicles of all types.

5.    Presentation of rotating displays of motor sports equipment of all types.

6.    Presentation of thematic displays integrated with media and educational content.

7.    A location for "Club" meetings and a gathering site for affiliated groups.

8.    A "Destination Point" for cruise-ins, rod runs and other similar activities.

9.    A "Drop-in" place for any person interested in motor sports seeking kind-rid sprits.

10.                       The meeting location for OMMA.

11.                       Development and staging point for traveling displays to spread the word of the museums location and function.

12.                       Development and staging point for joint programs with other automotive museums.
